General Comments:

My girlfriend (now wife) bought this car with her own money. If I could have been there I would have told her to run far away. She told me she bought this because she liked the way it looked. I do agree with that, but being into DSMs and Mitsubishi's I knew what she was in for.

This car looked sharp when she first got it. It was black with the aluminum rims. After one winter in Ohio the rockers got owned. They were completely gone. Now I think some of Dodges products look good and are priced well. Dodge/Chrysler's quality is by far the worst. Maybe a Yugo would be worse, but that's it. One of the ball joints fell off at a 5 point intersection. The other one fell off in a parking garage. No tow truck would come and get it because of clearance issues which made me even more mad. This car for some reason has 3 ball joints on one side. Not only that, but some of them are connected to a long bar which made them hundreds of dollars instead of 10-50 dollars. Do not buy any Dodges if you value your money. This car was so bad I traded it for an 89 Toyota Tercel, which should tell you more than you ever need to know.

Nice honest review. But American car reviews on here are quite inconsistent. Some say they are the worst cars ever with awful build quality; others will say they were the best car they ever had. I guess it depends on which model, manufacturer and probably more important - the time period. Though generally I have found various 1990s cars from around the world to be among the most reliable.

Best review summary ever!

1996 Dodge Avenger ES 2.0 from North America

Faults:

I bought this car for $500. It was just supposed to be used as a commuter, until I discovered its potential.

I've had the car painted black, and also painted the wheels black for that stealthy look! A new bumper and rear bumper helped the overall aesthetics.

After the installation of the cold air intake and exhaust, it runs so much better.

The only problems I've had are small oil leak around the valve cover, and the throttle position sensor; other than that, the car runs perfect.

Many more mods are on the way, which include Lamborghini doors, and maybe a full body kit, and possibly new rims.

1996 Dodge Avenger 2.0 from North America

Summary:

It's a very great car if you like to fix some things every now and then

Faults:

Well my crank sensor went out and had that replaced, and that cost me 250 dollars.

My car has been in an accident, and ever since then I have had problems with it running on 2 cylinders. And I have no voltage to cylinder 4, but cylinders 1,2,3 have voltage, but my injector for cylinder 3 is plugged.

General Comments:

I love how it goes down the road. But when I had it on the road, it was running on 2 cylinders, so it wasn't that great.
