2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Intense 1.8 from Croatia

Summary:

Superb car with looks, but lacks the power

Faults:

Nozzles for cleaning the front windscreen did not work in the beginning.

Covers of cargo holders on the roof fell away after some time.

Both problems sorted out at the local dealership.

General Comments:

Great car overall.

Great handling.

Low torque causing the car not to have power in low rpm's. For fast driving, it should be pushed to higher rpm's. But that's typical for Japanese atmospheric cars.

Great comfort. A bit hard, but I like it that way. Lots of space in it. I am 1.91 cm and I could sit in the back without the problem.

Great equipment. Bluetooth, viper and light sensors, cruise control, great audio... Lots of good stuff.

Great looking car. Although the alloy rims are too big for this car. 18" is way too heavy for this cars power. Too much unsprung weight on the wheels. Also car could be lowered a bit.

In Intense package (US GTS) with spoiler, front lip and side skirts looks superb.

Overall great car. But for performance machine look somewhere else, but as everyday car, it's great.

2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X GSR 2.0 turbo from North America

Summary:

Great aggressive looks, handles on rails, and best bang for the buck sports sedan

Faults:

Not much wrong with it after 1 year with it. Since it's an Lancer Evolution X, we haven't kept it stock for more than two weeks obtaining it.

Everything has been swapped out of the turbo system except for a bigger turbo. So I can't comment on the original parts and ride since it's only 60% stock now.

Small gas tank will have you pumping gas every ~220-250 miles, which doesn't help when the gas mileage varies between 15-20 mpg too.

The interior noise is better than the previous gen Evos, but it's no BMW/Lexus in the same price range. The door slams with a tinny sound, not a secure 'thump' like those other cars.

General Comments:

The car is fast and handles power modification easily. With a few general bolt-ons with a good tune, you can get 100+ hp/tq. easily.

The car is great stock and handles excellent with great Recaro bolstered seats that will hug even small frame guys like me (5'5").

The back seat and legroom is great for average adults and huge for little kids. It'll seat 4-5 with no issue unlike many sports car/coupe.

Think of it as the poor man's Nissan GT-R.

Nice review. Considering getting this car and keeping it stock. Would you recommend this as an everyday driver with the occasional trip to the track, and some fun driving on twisty roads?

2008 Mitsubishi Lancer SE (ES + GTS exterior styling) from North America

Summary:

Junk, regret buying it

Faults:

Sometimes doesn't start. Dealer can't figure out why.

Loud creaking noise in suspension in turns. Dealer unable to fix after 13 attempts.

Loud scraping noises in front struts under any compression, or bumps in the road.. dealer also unable to fix.

Often will not shift into reverse... sometimes will not shift into first.. especially annoying when the red light I'm stopped at turns green.

Interior panels rattle and buzz on acceleration, and if the stereo is on even quietly.

Sunroof leaks.

Service indicator intervals always goofed up, probably also dealers fault.

Oil leaking out of engine, this one just started last week...

Front seats are starting to break and make creaking noises.

I hear there have been some recalls, but I have not received any notices yet.

General Comments:

Dealer doesn't seem to be able to resolve any issues with this car.

I'm afraid the steering components of the suspension will fail and cause this car to veer off into oncoming traffic... or a building or something.

The engine and transmission are well matched and the car is fun to drive. Features for the money were pretty good... it's really too bad I've had all these problems with the car, as it really looks great and has everything I wanted with the exception of a heated steering wheel.

I would not buy another Mitsubishi after this, due to the inability or unwillingness of the dealer to resolve issues with their cars.

You bought a lemon my friend.

Mitsubishi has always been second rate due to the company always being on the brink of bankruptcy. I had a 2000 Eclipse GT from new, and it was really poorly designed and built. All sorts of parts failed and came apart, and I only had it for one year and 14K miles. I never went back after that car.

Sounds like the story of my life with the 2010 Lancer my wife has.

Definitely got a lemon mate.
