Taken May 2005 from Athens (Athinai) (Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport) - ATH to London, England (Heathrow Airport) - LHR

Check in at Athens fine - plenty of open desks; not too many people. The new airport in any event is really quite efficient.

The scheduled boarding time came and went without any announcement. In fact no announcements until boarding - some 40 minutes later.

Once again a full flight, but chaotic boarding - no seat row preference boarding and no prior boarding for families with infants like ourselves.

Plane had been changed to a 737-400 from a A340; but leg room good although the plane had clearly seen better days.

Service pretty awful. I wonder if they exclude smiling from the Olympic training manual?! What was more frustrating was the fact we could not see the TV screen as we were just behind Business. As we were flying with an infant we wanted her to at least have something to keep her amused. This request was meet with a frosty "no".

Overall the flight itself - take off / landing etc - was good, but they really should try and do something about their crews.

Also seems a pity they do not choose to serve Greek wine on board rather than South African is a plastic bottle.
