Taken June 2005 from Granada - GRX to Madrid (Barajas) - MAD

I recently flew Iberia airlines to get from Granada to Madrid before returning home to the U.S. The flight was fine, on time and such, the flight part was not a problem. However, the airline lost my baggage and handled the situation horribly. At Iberia they have no clue what is going on. First my bag never got to Madrid. I filed a claim with them and when I called them the next day they said they had it, but then the craziness began. According to them, they were unable to ship the bag to the States until Saturday after I had flown their airline on Monday (thus a 5-day delay). However, I am writing this on Sunday and according to U.S. Airways, the supposed carrier, the bag is neither in Philadelphia or my hometown of Baltimore. I have spoken to numerous different agents and gotten numerous answers. First off, it is very hard to understand the agents, as most of them do not speak fluent English. One said my file was "confusing" and that they did not know where the bag was. Another said that they can only go by what the computer says, which is that the bag was sent on Saturday and that "we cannot confirm whether it made it or not". I do not know what to believe. I called the customer service line to complain, only to be transferred to luggage services for an unknown reason, presumably because the agent did not understand what I was saying. The luggage agent told me to put it in writing because there was nothing they could do. The frustration is unbearable. If the bag is lost, so be it, this stuff happens. But for the airline to repeatedly tell me they are going to send it, or have already sent it, when they obviously have not, is ludacris. And for me to have to repeatedly call them as well as Philadelphia and Baltimore airports is ridiculous. Now I should say if you want quality Iberia is a decent airline, the aircraft is nice and the flight was on time. But do not entrust your baggage to them, because if it doesn't show up, there is trouble. I should also mention that inexplicably, my bag was the only one that never got to Madrid from Granada. And unlike other American-based airlines, Iberia does not know how to deal with customers, nor do they know how to adequately handle lost bags. I hope no one ever has to go through this grueling process, where you have false hope that you will get your bags back yet never do.
