Taken January 2005 from Frankfurt (Rhein-Main) - FRA to Madrid (Barajas) - MAD

On the day of travel, I received a phone call in the morning from LAN, informing me that my flight would be about 3 hours late. As I already had a non-flexible train ticket to the airport of Frankfurt, there was no other possibility than waiting there.

Check-in was a bit messy. The agent serving me was new (nothing bad so far), however for some reason she worried about my booking because I returned the next day and the system didn't want to 'accept' that. Finally, another agent helped her to get along with my booking. The new agent actually was friendly, though she hardly spoke any german (I speak english and spanish as well, however, she seemed to stick with trying to talk german). I requested a window seat and later on, the agent who helped her asked me again for my seating preference. I again said "window seat, please". The seats which actually were printed on my boarding pass turned out to be aisle seats - for both the outbound and return flight. Thanks to lower loads on the flights and a helpful agent in Madrid it was no problem to change the seats.

Finally on board, the passengers were greeted by a very friendly and attentive crew. Seats were as nice as they were when I flew with them last time in 2002, with a very nice seatback cushion, decent legroom and an updated IFE.

In-flight service was superior: Though the meal service has dropped from a hot to a cold meal, every crew member took their time to serve every passenger with all the drinks requested. They presented the wines available to every passenger and always had time for a quick chat.

I definitely will fly again on LAN, their in-flight service, comfort and entertainment are very good, though they could improve on the ground a bit (this was not the first time I encountered problems at check-in regarding seats and delays).
