Taken January 2005 from London, England (Gatwick Airport) - LGW to Toronto, ON (Lester B. Pearson International Airport) - YYZ
We flew on Zoom for the first time in June 2005. This will also be the last time as well. Our flight left Gatwick at about 6:30am to Toronto. We didn't see the flight attendants for the first hour and 20 minutes into the flight as they were too busy behind the curtain in the galley have a laugh and joke with each other. We paid the extra for Premium Economy and was totally disappointed compared to Air Transat, My Travel and Thomas Cook Airlines which we have travelled on all the above. The seating was no wider than economy, although there was a greater seat pitch. There was two video screens at the front of the cabin, but these were small and it was difficult to see the movies. The food was generally good for airline fayre and there was a choice of steak or chicken, plus red or white wine. The alcoholic drinks were also complimentary, although it was hard to try and get the flight attendants to part with the drinks as they obviously didn't like the idea of boozing at altitude. We landed first in Ottawa where the majority of the passengers got off. The short flight to Toronto was uneventful and again there was no sign of the flight attendants. We flew back to the U. K from Calgary. Again same plane and strangely enough most of the flight attendants were the same as well. Again, nothing special about the flight, although the service was slightly better and the cabin crew more a little more attentive. Zoom is a relatively new airline and I know the old saying that you 'get what you pay for', but compare Zoom to the other low-cost alternatives from Gatwick to Canada and you will definitely see what I mean. If you just want to get from A-B as quickly and cheaply as possible, then choose Zoom Economy as its certainly not worth the extra to upgrade to Premium as there isn't much difference. If you don't like to be disturbed by cabin crew and just want to sleep across the Atlantic, then Zoom is for you! |
