Taken October 2005 from Fort Lauderdale, FL (Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport) - FLL to Montego Bay (Sangster) - MBJ

I had such high expectations for Air Jamaica since they were voted best of the Caribean - they are even proud of advertising that in their aircraft. However, it was such a disappointment for us. Both flights (to Jamaica and back to Florida) had been extremely delayed. The trip going to Montego Bay was delayed for 2 Hours. Although we were in the runway for 2 hours, this was not an issue for us. There was a problem with the weather and it was not any fault of the pilot why we have not left. The return to Florida was just horrible, really horrible. First - our flight was supposed to be at 11AM. When we checked in at 9, the attendant said the flight will be a "little" delayed and we will begin boarding at 1140. Then the trouble began, we kept on looking at the monitor for the gate since MBJ is such a small airport. We got concerned when we saw the monitor show that the flight was still on time, but our boarding passes said 1140. We decided to visit Customer Service. They confirmed that the flight is delayed and 1140 still a good boarding time. We have a connecting flight from Florida to Houston - at first I was not concerned about it since we are only going to be an hour delay and I had allotted close to 4 hours in between our arrival in Florida to our next flight. I am glad that I asked the representative on what time we are arriving Florida with the delay. She said 6:15! Jamaica to Florida is only a 2 1/2 hour trip so I am concerned about how they calculated it. I told her that my husband and I have a 6:10 connecting flight and she went and started calling continental to guarantee us a seat for the last flight out at 8:25. The math still did not add up for us. We are thinking that if we had left on time @ 11am, we would have gotten to Florida by 2:45 - so if we left by 12:05, then that would have been 3:50.

Next thing we know, the 12:05 flight became a 1:05 flight. When we asked what is causing the delay, they did not have an answer for us. That was really alarming. We would understand if there was a weather issue, but for a rep to not know the delay - that is just totally weird. Even with the hour delay, again - we were still hopeful that we will make our next flight. The next thing that happened was totally unbelievable. We were able to board by 1230 - everybody anxious to leave -- then another thing happened again. It seems like there was problems with our bags and it took them 1 Hour to put our bags inside the aircraft? How unprofessional is that? The flight attendants are neither accommodating nor apologetic with all this things happening. In fact, I think the flight attendants were hiding from all the passengers because they know how hot we all are for this ridiculous delay. There is no excuse for any bag issues considering the flight was not even full. We landed finally at 5:55. Now, my husband and I understood the reason why the customer service rep we were to land close to 6 - it is like she anticipated all this delay. Almost everybody has gone through immigration before our bags started showing up at the baggage claim. It took them around 6:45 before the bags started coming out of the conveyor belt.

When my husband and I got to Continental to hopefully catch the 8:25 flight. The attendant told us that the Air Jamaica representative did not secure our seats, but luckily she was able to get two for us. We would definitely harass Air Jamaica if it means us staying in Florida that night. We were barely lucky to have seats since when we boarded the flight is Really Full. It was so nice to get to Houston not only on time, but Early by 15 minutes. Never again will we fly Air Jamaica!
