Taken January 2005 from Tenerife, Canary Islands (Los Rodeos) - TFN to London, England (Gatwick Airport) - LGW

Booked a return to Tenerife North at a great fare of just 99.00. I think this is great value in the age of low cost airlines, however this fare is not changeable or tranferable and be aware if you miss you outbound flight for circumstances beyond your control, BA will assume you have booked this fare as a return as its cheaper than a one way ticket and your whole trip could end up being cancelled. Luckily this did not happen to me, but it is known.

Arrived at Los Rodeos around two hours before and checked in pretty quickly. The BA representative who was milling about was very friendly and spoke textbook English which was a nice touch. the inbound flight was a little late coming in so I was aware of a slight delay in our departure. Los Rodeos is not as large as the southerly Reina Sofia airport, but adequate for the flights it does handle - even the Iberia 747-400 departing to Madrid made no big impact on available seating in the separture hall. shopping is not fantastic though its much easier to get drinks and snacks here than at Reina Sofia, which can be jammed on a Friday or Tuesday. On the whole a good airport to fly in or out of. Only 50 minutes north of the Southern resorts on the fast TF1 motorway.

Seated in 16F which was looked out onto the right hand trailing edge of the wing on a very clean and well presented A320 (G-TTOE). Crew were very polite and attentive. Purser for the flight was very busy though serving the two rows at the front which were hidden from view by the "dividing curtain". Our Take off was to the east over Santa Cruz then left turn heading up to Oporto. Drinks service was completely free of charge had some coke and a white wine to go with the meal of Thai chicken with noodles - the noddles were as fresh as I have seen in the air (normally dry as sticks). Tea and Coffee were served which was also very refreshing. Before landing we had a very long Tax free good's service which seemed to take an age to work its way down the cabin from those nice people in the front two rows who must have been buying the lot!

Inflight entertainment was also provided by means of drop down TV screens. The movie was Batman Begins, a decent enough film to pass the time. there were also some sitcoms shown though we were starting to descend by the time they played. Nice view of Portsmouth and the south coast before we landed at Gatwick at 16:39, 14 minutes late which was fine by me as I had a connection to make hours later. the flight was only 3hrs 40 minutes so its avery good flight time for a Canary flight.

I would use BA operated by GB airways again, I think the value for money is excellent, but I may just not bother with fiddly connections at Gatwick if I find a comparable direct flight from my local airport.
