Taken November 2005 from Ushuaia - USH to Buenos Aires (Aeroparque Jorge Newbery) - AEP

Flying with Aerolineas Argentinas during the wildcat strikes of the pilots. Looking at the news the night before, it looked like I would not be flying for weeks, as the only airline serving Ushuaia was Aerolineas and Austral.

Rang central reservations to confirm that the flight would be delayed, but looked like it was operating. Turned up to airport as I wanted to make sure I would get out. There were people everywhere and the staff were getting a battering as normal. We did not believe we would be going anywhere, then a announcement came that the flight was in the air and would be landing, magic word was code–share, this flight was operated by Austral.

Check in was then quick and efficient with the ground staff (even with no computers after the system went down!). Got our seats and up to boarding gate after paying the airport taxes.

Boarding was swift and efficient, the flight crew welcomed us aboard and apologised for the delay. We were not too bothered about the delay as we were the only flight out that day!

Seating was comfortable in the MD 87, there was a quick stopover at Rio Grande on the way, and then on to Buenos Aires. Meal was served soon after the flight from Rio Grande with a full bar service, with the cabin attendants making 2-3 passes with drinks.

Flight landed smoothly in Buenos Aires, bags arrived within a few minutes into a very quiet airport, except for protest stands for the pilots who then blocked the airport the next day!

Overall except for the disruption, Aerolineas are a good airline and have good in-flight service. We were relieved to get on a flight at all, lucky for us it was operated by Austral. Once the problems get resolved, it will be a good airline again.
