Taken 27 May 2006 from Dallas/Fort Worth, TX (Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport) - DFW to Las Vegas, NV (McCarran International Airport) - LAS

Overall, a very nice flight to and from Las Vegas. America West is in the process of merging with US Air. This created some confusion for me when I checked in at the airport. I tried to check my luggage curbside at US Air and was told I had to go about 100 yards further to check in with America West. It was no big problem, but interestingly, on the flight it was announced that it was a US Air flight. It seems some parts of the merger have occurred, but baggage check-in has not merged. I think this confusion will be resolved in time as the merger fully takes place.

From DFW to LAS, the plane was full and was a Boeing 737-300. It was a nice flight, though a bumpy landing due to high winds in Las Vegas.

From LAS to DFW, the plane had a number of empty seats. It was an Airbus 319 that appeared to be almost new. I was impressed with the very comfortable leather seats. It was my first flight on a 319 and I was impressed with the interior of the plane, although I was amazed at how noisy it was. I felt the noise level of the engines and the mechanical features of the plane were much more than the Boeing 737. I do not know if that is characteristic of the 319 or not, but the high noise level was very noticeable. Again a bumpy landing in Dallas which surprised me since the winds were light.

Service was friendly and excellent both ways.

The airfare was somewhat higher than a similar trip on America West about 10 or 11 months ago. I paid about $205 for a ticket then and paid $248 for a ticket for this trip. I assume this is due to higher fuel costs.
