Taken 2 April 2006 from Manchester, England (Ringway International Airport) - MAN to Bangkok (Don Muang International Airport) - BKK

MAN-DOH-BKK in Economy and return.

Organised check in at MAN by Qatar's own ground staff; good job really since it was a full flight.

Both outbound flights on the brand new A330-300. These have excellent seatback IFE, unlike some of the older 200 series aircraft. The 300 series are also much nicer in that the interior is more modern with the mood lighting which created a nice touch.

Most of the crew were efficient and friendly.

Seats not as comfortable as other airlines I've flown.

I noticed that on the MAN-DOH and DOH-MAN sectors menu cards were offered in economy, with a choice of meal. Whereas on the DOH-BKK and BKK-DOH this was not the case, you got what you were given. Both sectors are 6 hours long and in this they squeeze a meal and a snack, so I found that there wasn't much time for sleeping as there was pretty much always something going on in the cabin.

Overall Qatar is a good airline. However they advertise themselves as a 5 star airline, this maybe true for premium classes, but not in economy. The economy service is 3-4 star in my opinion, only Thai and Singapore get my 5 star economy rating.

I think given the choice of a direct flight to Far East Asia with Thai or Singapore, compared with changing plane in Qatar, I'd choose the direct option.
