Home > Zoom > ReviewTaken 29 June 2006 from Calgary, AB (Calgary International Airport) - YYC to Glasgow, Scotland (Abbotsichn) - GLAA group of 4 of us were flying to Glasgow from Calgary - the trip was planned well in advance, and booked 9 months ahead of time. At that time, Zoom was offering a $200 discount per 2 seats purchased. After all was paid for (including the $15 for advanced seat selection), we paid around $870 Canadian per ticket including all taxes. Considering that this is cheaper than Air Canada's cheapest sale fares, I'd dare say we did quite well. The discount was actually listed in the paper, but I didn't have the code when I booked it. The agents in the call centre were EXCEEDINGLY helpful, I must say. They did all they could to help me get the discount for everyone. Service commenced in Calgary - oftentimes with Zoom, it starts in Vancouver and stops in Calgary, so this was nice. We did have to fly via Manchester both ways (kind of odd to fly over Glasgow just to fly back). I was quite surprised at the seat pitch - only 1 inch less than Air Canada, and the seats were leather! Easier to keep clean, yes, but also more comfortable. Outbound crew was quite friendly, though you could tell they wanted to get the work done so they could sit down. The returning crew was terrible - they had obviously been read the riot act about checking seatbelts, because we hit turbulence several times along the way, and not two seconds after the captain had turned on the fasten seatbelt sign, they were coming around and bullying you if hadn't yet fastened it. And when I say bullying, I mean it. "Have you done your seatbelt up yet? It's for YOUR safety, you know!" Pilots on the outbound flight were fantastic. On the return flight, we had the roughest landing I've ever had in Manchester, despite perfect conditions. He approached it much too fast. He did much better in Calgary, but we were worried that the tire would last! Catering service is terrible, but one doesn't really expect more on a discount airline. The entertainment was also pretty bad - same deal, though. All in all, though, the crews were pretty good, the pilots the same, the plane relatively comfortable. The price, though, was fantastic. If the service were to fall further downhill, I would not consider them, even for the price, but as it stands right now, they are a much better option than other discounters such as Thomas Cook, MyTravel, or Air Transat. | ||
