I got a great deal on an internet fare to Delhi, and so I can't complain about the price, particularly since it was a non-stop flight. The most annoying thing was that the outbound flight to Delhi was seriously delayed (it originated in Chicago, and getting the passengers back on the plane in London created havoc) - this meant arriving at 4am in Delhi, 3.5h late.

Onboard, I have flown AI before, and as always, their inflight entertainment product lags far behind (they had inflight screens on the return flight, but as far as I could see the majority failed to work). If you like Bollywood, and enjoy Indian food it's great. On my return flight they also offered a Western alternative as well as vegetarian and non-vegetarian Indian options, all of which looked great.

The advantage of the 747-400 Boeing aircraft that they use on these routes is that they have better than average leg room in Economy class - much better than Virgin or British Airways. This meant I could actually relax and get some sleep (although my seat didn't always recline properly, but the plane did look a little aged).

The actual flight itself was fine, with smooth landings and an informative captain. The cabin crew were at your service, and they work hard to please if asked nicely (which is fair enough). I can now begin to understand why they get annoyed when I saw how demanding some of the passengers can be! I love the fact that the female crew wear traditional clothes - it just gives AI that cultural edge.

I know AI have ordered a large number of new aircraft that will be welcome, only to pass the hours onboard.

I would fly AI again since they offer very competitive fare and have experience pilots. Hopefully, we'll see newer planes with more entertainment products onboard soon (the duty free catalogue could do with some sprucing up too).
