Home > Korean Air > ReviewTaken 10 November 2006 from London, England (Heathrow Airport) - LHR to Incheon - ICNMy employer booked my one-way flight to Incheon, and I was originally told that I would have a choice between KLM (via Amsterdam) and a direct flight with Korean Air. Before I had the opportunity to tell my employer that I would prefer KLM, the flight had already been booked for me - with Korean Air. Korean Air has a very average 20kg checked baggage allowance, although their 12kg hand baggage allowance is very generous. My 29kg suitcase was seriously overweight at Heathrow, so rather than pay over-the-odds in excess baggage charges, I ditched 4kg of clothes and 25kg was accepted. That was nice of them. The Boeing 747-400 aircraft was not a new aircraft. The interior looked very tired and shabby, and it wasn't entirely clean either. I had selected my seat a few days before travelling and opted for 64A, a window seat, right at the back of the aircraft - the last row in fact. Where the aircraft narrows towards the rear, the regular 3-4-3 seating configuration becomes 2-4-2. The seat was comfortable for economy class and it had a great recline on it as well. Korean Air also provide amenity kits to all passengers, consisting of a small green bag and lanyard with toothbrush, toothpaste, socks and eye-mask. The quality of inflight entertainment on this 10 hour and 5 minute service to Incheon Airport in Seoul was extremely poor. The airline's website brags about top quality, audio and video on-demand, but there wasn't even individual screens. It was impossible to see the large screen at the front of the section I was in. And their inflight radio also left a lot to be desired. Selection was somewhat limited and the headphones were cheap and nasty, not blocking out any of the aircraft noise. The crew were not around very often, however, when you did see them (very occasionally), they were offering drinks to the passengers and handing out immigration paperwork. I woke to find that my forms had been wedged into my tray table by a member of the crew. Again, this was very thoughtful of them. The food was typical airline food and nothing too special. You could have a Korean meal, consisting of seaweed soup and rice with vegetables. The alternative was a dry, flavourless beef curry. I was starving hungry, so I had no choice, but to eat it. Despite an on-time departure from Heathrow, we arrived about half an hour late at Incheon, meaning I had to move quickly in order to catch my connection from Gimpo. Korean Air are nothing special. I don't see myself using them again in the future. For my return trip to the UK at Christmas, my flight has been booked with KLM. Whilst the service looks pretty much the same, they seem to undercut Korean on price by about 50%! | ||
