We were supposed to fly Air India into Amritsar. This is the only reason we chose to fly with Air India. Upon check in we were advised that we will now be flying into Delhi instead of Amritsar. We were told we would be put in a hotel in Delhi overnight and taken to Amritsar the following morning. This did not happen. On arrival at Delhi, nobody knew what was happening, and staff told us that there was no hotel or flight available. No satisfactory explanation was provided. The customers some young children were left stranded, without anyone helping. After several hours of questioning staff, one Air India personnel said that they had to cancel the flight to Amritsar the following day as there had been an emergency! Hundreds of customers were left to decide how to travel from Delhi to their homes in Punjab. After passengers complained they agreed to organise coaches to take them to Punjab. After waiting 3 hours for the coaches to arrive people got on. However we and another few people did not have a place on the coach, as a result of this Air India said that they would probably have a flight to Amritsar in the moning if waited in the airport overnight! How could we believe this so we demanded another coache to be provided, which eventually there was. The coach took 8 hours to get to punjab and this was the very reason that we were flying direct to Amritsar in the first place. On the coach there was no food, water provided and by this time it had been 24 hours since we had left home. THE JOURNEY IN TOTAL SHOULD HAVE ONLy taken 8 hours. Our travel agent and Air India had contact details of family both in India and UK, they were not informed of the change and our family in India were waiting to collect us from Amritsar Airport, according to the change Air India had told us about before we left Birmingham. The whole journey was chaos and so badly organised. Our return flight was also cancelled and we only became to know of this when we went to confirm our flight. We were told there was no need to confirm our flight, but as we did not trust the Airline, we did and this is the only reason we found out the the flight was cancelled and re-scheduled the following day. Since coming back most people we have spoken to have had similar experiences and they will not travel with Air India again. The ticket was an expensive and there is no excuse for the way we were treated, I am absolutley appauled with the service. There was even an article about what happened to our flight in an Indian newspaper. I think it is my duty to inform future passengers not to make the same mistake. I have travelled and Turkmenistan and Uzbekestan Airlines many times to Amritsar and have had no problem and will stick to them in the future. I will never fly Air India again, and recommend that you never choose to fly on this airline.
