An eight hour trip with five children (Burlington, VT - San Juan, PR via Philadelphia) to the British Virgin Islands took 31 hours as a result of US Airways refusal to hold a connecting flight in Philadelphia for 20 minutes after first leg of trip (on their plane) was three hours late. In Philadelphia, after waiting in horribly understaffed customer service line for two hours, US Airways said they'd booked us on American Airlines flight. After walking over three miles (again, with 5 kids) outside in the rain between terminals to collect our bags and then again to get to AA terminal, we discovered that no, that was a big fat lie, US Airways had not booked us on an American Airlines flight. After walking all the way back to US Airways and again waiting in customer service line for another two hours, we were put on flight to PR which would arrive 11 hours after flight we missed. During that time no apologies, no vouchers, no help whatsoever. Waiting room was filthy dirty with torn seats. Since we arrived in PR at 11 pm instead of noon, we missed our (non US Air) flight to the BVI. US Air did not care - hey, they got us to where we were supposed to be, albeit half a day late. If we missed a connecting flight on another airline, it was our problem. Accordingly, we then spent over $1000 changing that flight and paying for a hotel room, Have since spoken to other people traveling the Philadelphia - PR route. All of them were late into Philly on a US Airways and the flight to PR was not held so that they arrived 12 hours late into Puerto Rico. Would not use US Airways even if airline was giving away tickets and paid me to use them. |
