Flights were no problem but the ground staff and their manager at Durban Airport were very poor and do not understand a thing about customer services. They are the reason I would never use South African again. On booking in with the most sullen person ever met, I used a temporary passport for identification as this was the first of three flights to the UK. I was told that we could not leave South Africa as immigration in JNB would not accept the temporary passport.

When I queried this and explained that I had got the passport from the SA Embassy in London and asked how they could issue it if it can't be used. I received a shrug and the booking in clerk left her desk with no explanation and disappeared.

Fifteen minutes later she returned and I again was told we could not fly. I asked to speak to the manager who also told me immigration would not let us leave the country on a tempory passport.

I explained that I had been told that it it illegal to enter or leave the country with another passport if you hold dual citizenship and showed them our British Passports with which we use to leave and enter the UK. They still didn't get it and said they deal with passports on a daily basis,knew what they were talking about, and if I didn't believe them they would book us to JNB and we could suffer the consequences. This whole rigmarole took about an hour and they still refused to book our baggage to London even when showing them our British ones.

On arriving at Immigration I gave them my British Passport as told to by SAA and the immigration officer refused to accept it saying I had to use the same passport I used entering the country. When I told her what had happened and why I had submitted my British passport she said that it was nonnsense and SAA staff did not know what they were talking about. SAA really need to get their act together and stop strssing out their customers just because they have no idea what is going on.
