Home > Thai Airways International > 2009 > ReviewTaken 9 August 2009 from London, England (Heathrow Airport) - LHR to Kuala Lumpur, International - KUL2Departure was delayed 45 minutes due to loading problems but arrival into Bangkok was on time. I had a seat on the top deck so was able to use the seat side lockers. Juice and champange, were offered immediately. The shell seats (on the 747-400 and A340-600) are fine once you have worked out the position that suits you. I found the automatic 'full length' setting uncomfortable but by using the individual controls for the leg, foot, back and head rests I quickly found the position that suited me. Seat width could be a problem for some but I was able to sleep on my side without feeling uncomfortable. The food was fairly good and better than most I've had on flights leaving London. My only comment is that the quantities are not hugh and the meals are generally the same on a 11-12 flight to or from London as on a 2-3 hours flight around Asia. That was borne out on my connecting flight. The meal was similar to the dinner from London and as a result made the service seem a lot better than that offered on a flight of comparable distance within Europe. The deserts are especially jummy! The return flights were of similar standard although the 777-300 used on my return from Kuala Lumpur to Bangkok had old style seats (but they were comfy) and limited AVOD. On the ground, at Heathrow, Thai uses the SAS lounge which can be very busy. However, it is big and there are plenty of chairs on two floors. Thai has its own lounge at KLIA (used by other Star Alliance carriers) and of course several at Bangkok. You are also given fast track access at KLIA and on the way out at Heathrow. My bag made my 55 minutes connection at Bangokok on the way out and was one of the first off the baggage belt at Kuala Lumpur and at Heathrow. The only shortcomings were; being asked to complete a landing card prior to landing at LHR (I hold a British Passport) so I was puzzled that the crew were not up to speed with our immigration procedures; some but not all passengers were given fast track invitations on arrival at Heathrow and less than friendly service on check-in at Heathrow on the way out. Generally Thai are good. A few tweaks here and there would raise their marks overall and put them closer to the like of Singapore Airlines. | ||
