Home > JMC > 2001 > ReviewTaken August 2001 from Birmingham to Orlando SanfordFirstly, we were told at check in that the airline's 2 DC-10's have been retired from the fleet earlier in the month and whilst they were waiting for the 2 new A330's in November and March, we would be put on a replacement 767-300, from Britannia. This didn't bother us too much. The plane was only delayed for 30 minutes (a lot less than on the return). We boarded the plane and I sat next to the window. The only thing we were offered was a pair of headphones and a warm bottle of water. I put everything I needed for the flight in my seat pocket only to find everything fell out! There was a hole in the pocket! Some use that was. We waited for a Jersey European to take off before we hit the runway. Then the captain started blabbering on for 10 minutes about the temperature in Orlando! One thing I could not fault JMC for was the entertainment onboard. We saw Shreck and Heartbreakers, before they were even in the cinemas in UK, however, the TV was situated directly above me so I either had to crank my neck upwards or peer through the seat in front at the TV on the wall at the front of the aircraft. The drinks trolley came through once, 20 minutes after take off, and 50p for a tiny can of Diet (thats all was left because we were in the rear cabin) Pepsi! The meal wasn't bad, but the rasberry cheesecake made me feel sick. The plane was an ex-german plane as everything was written in German in the toilet and seats. The toilet was a dump, it smelt of urine and the floor was sticky. The landing was the worst ever! No wonder they issued us with 2 sick bags. We landed in Sanford ready for a great holiday! And we did, till we got to the check in at Sanford. The friendly American guy at the desk told us that the Britannia plane was still in Gatwick in maintenance. He informed us it would be at least 8 hours before the plane even arrived. But, I cannot fault the fact that we were taken to the nearby Hilton hotel to stay whilst we waited. We piled onto the coach and travelled for 25 minutes (!) to the hotel. When we arrived it was really nice but all us JMC guests were crammed into a tiny room big enough for 50 (there was 320 of us) while the rep explained the situatuion to us. We went into a room to change and went to the rather small pool to relax. The hotel is a conference hotel, not meant for holiday guests. Dinner was also supplied by the hotel which was good, but the food tasted like leftovers from another meal. We tried to contact our relatives to tell them to pick us up later than planned, but the minimum phone card was $20, more than we had left. So we left it. Finally the time came to go back to the airport after an agonising wait. Then at the airport, an announcement told us we had to wait ANOTHER 2 hours before the plane was ready to depart. We waited and waited and finally got on the plane for a 9 hour flight back to Birmingham. The plane then waited for another hour before going to Gatwick to drop off the rest of the passengers who I felt very sorry for. The plane was G-OBYC by the way. | ||
