Home > Air Scandic > 2002 > ReviewTaken June 2002 from Manchester to PaphosFlight out on 29th May was delayed for 5 hours. We had to wait while a part was flown in from Helsinki - why not obtained locally? Would not initially give any info - rising passenger anger meant some info given which changed as morning progressed - economical with the truth. No provision made whatsoever. On return no-one to handle the air bridge. After a delay of 15 mins, eventually had to disembark down the stairs into the rain. Lack of direction interminal meant some passengers ended up in the departure hall rather than immigration. Organisation is sadly lacking. ************************************************** steven@carsurvey.org (I run this website): Below is an official response to this review from the Business Development Manager for Air Scandic. "Flight SCY 4731 from Manchester to Paphos was delayed due to a technical fault. An aircraft is a very complicated piece of machinery requiring many thousands of different parts to ensure its safe & efficient operation. The part required to fix the floor path lighting could not be obtained locally. Full information was given to passengers throughout this 5 hour delay. The tour operators who have allocations of seats on Air Scandic give us guidelines on providing passenger welfare. Refreshment vouchers are handed out if the charter airline knows in advance that the technical fault will delay the flight for more than 4 hours. In this case our engineers advised us the delay would be less than 4 hours. However a problem arose & the delay was 5 hours. Complimentary drinks were given out on board the flight (handing out meal vouchers at the airport would have delayed the flight even more). Flight SCY 4732 from Paphos to Manchester was allocated a stand by Manchester Airport with no air bridge. Manchester Airports wholly owned subsidary Ringway Handling is responsible for bringing steps to the incoming aircraft. They are currently very short staffed. We are applying pressure to ensure that all passengers on Air Scandic receive the service at Manchester Airport that they are entitled to. The management of both Ringway Handling and Manchester Airport are very complacent about the inconvenience being caused by them to all passengers using Manchester Airport. Lack of terminal directions is the responsibility of Manchester Airport, however we will bring it to their attention." | ||
