Taken October 2002 from Manchester to Chania

Our flight was delayed for twelve hours. We had limited info given until a near riot occurred. A meal voucher was handed out after approx 5 hours. Initially we sat in the plane on the runway with no air conditioning - rising temperatures for over three and half hours. Again limited info. A glass of water was offered.

Were disembarked as were told a small pipe was broken - pipe was fixed after another hour approx. Then told a fresh air crew was needed. Waited another hour.

Finally boarded for the second time. Waited on the plane for a couple of hours only to be told of another problem that had occurred. Disembarked again. Limited info. No official Air Scandic rep came forward. Meal vouchers finally appeared. People were getting very worried about plane safety.

Waited for a few hours again, then told to head to gate only to be told that the air crew had run out of time and they were trying to find fresh again. Pilot arrived only to say that he would not fly the plane - he departed surrounded by police. Anger arose only to be heightened by the arrival of armed police.

We eventually left 12 hours later after another plane was brought back from Crete to pick us up. All this and I had my ten year old daughter with me who was very upset about everything.

First day of holiday lost. What compensation?
