Taken November 2002 from Huntsville, AL to Allentown, PA

Outbound flight was supposed to be Huntsville (HSV) to Allentown (ABE) by way of Cincinatti (CVG). Arrived at the airport at 6:30am for my 7:40am flight, only to learn that the flight would be delayed about an hour, and that I couldn't possibly make my connection in Cincinatti. They rebooked me on the 11:25am flight by way of Atlanta (ATL). I then had to spend five very dull hours in the HSV airport. They kindly provided a $6 voucher with which to buy breakfast. As prices at the HSV airport are surprisingly low, I was able to buy enough food for two meals.

The flight from HSV to ATL was on an MD-88. I was bumped up to first class, where the seats were comfortable, but well-worn. The flight attendants were very friendly, and I made sure to gulp down two free beers during the very short flight.

My connection from ATL to ABE was on a 50 seat Canadair Regional Jet. The CRJ isn't as comfortable as the Embraer. The seats just aren't contoured right, and the windows are placed below eye level, so that one has to crouch to see out.

My return flight was supposed to be ABE to HSV, by way of CVG. I tried twice to call the night before to reconfirm my reservation, but gave up after being put on hold for too long. When I arrived at the airport at 5am for my 6am flight, I learned that the flight to CVG was canceled. It being the Sunday after Thanksgiving, everything was booked solid until 9pm, when I could return by way of ATL. Fortunately I had relatives in the area with whom I could spend the day.

The flight from ABE to ATL was on another CRJ. The flight attendant was very friendly and amusing. We arrived in ATL on time.

My connecting flight from ATL to HSV was also on a CRJ. We arrived on time, but my luggage did not show up. It arrived and was delivered to my apartment the next day.

I gave a delay score of 5 because the flights to which I was reassigned did arrive on time. Too bad I hadn't booked those originally.

I say that I would fly Delta again because this is the first truly bad experience I have had flying with them, and I hope it won't be repeated too often.
