Taken July 2002 from Toronto ON to Glasgow SCOT

In July of 2002 my husband and I flew to Scotland from Toronto. This was only one leg of our trip as we live in BC and had flown to Montreal originally, rented an SUV and drove all over Quebec and Labrador before returning to Toronto and flying to the UK. Because both my husband and I are tall, we paid for preassigned seats for our 8 hour flight. When we arrived at the airport (several hours before) we discovered upon check in, that there were no preassigned seats. Even though I had a printed itinerary from my agent that had seats numbers on it.

We were told that not only were our seats not preassigned, but that we could not sit together either. The situtation was getting worse, but the not sitting together wasn't as big a deal as the leg room. We could live with that.

We asked what our options were and the clerk told us that our only option was to upgrade to Club Transat Class, in order to get the leg room we wanted. We did that at an additional cost of $440.00.

I filed my complaint with Air Transat when I returned home from my trip. I sent them copies of their own literature, claiming to have worry free and hassle free travel. Well, needless to say it fell on deaf ears. My phone calls were ignored, my emails were ignored, when I finally did get through they reimbursed me my $30 fee for preassigned seat selection and was basically told to go away.

Well, I'm not going away. As far as I'm concerned, I had an agreement with Air Transat. I fulfilled all my responsibilities, I.e. paying in advance, checking in on time etc.. I understand that mistakes happen. However, a $30 reimbursement is not compensation.

I did not want to fly in Club Class. This is not about enjoying the Club Class Service, and incidentally it's nothing to write home about. It's about leg room, a service, an agreement, and correcting a wrong.

PS My husband and I did not sit together in Club Class either.
