Taken December 2002 from London Heathrow to New York JFK

It was going to be a holiday of a lifetime! Christmas in New York, my husband, father, my daughter and me, we booked our whole holiday with United Airlines including our hotel (The Metropolitan in Manhattan).

The flight was terrible; we had bad turbulence (which was no fault of the airline) every time any food came round!

We were seated at the last back row right by the toilets, which smelt like they haven't been cleaned since the plane was built, every time someone came out of there they had done something!

Also it was incredibly cramped at the back. As my father is quite tall he sat with his knees pushed almost touching his neck!

Finally we got to New York, our hotel was also a disappointment, my daughter has bad asthma so we requested a non smoking room. We did get one of those, but we also found out that they allow pets at the hotel and my poor daughter didn't stop sneezing!

It was snowing when we got there, so it was cold in the room, so we put the heating on, but frankly I could pass wind faster and hotter than the old storage heater that was in our room.

The carpet was damp in the corner and the brown blankets that you seem to also get had strange brown marks on them. The bathroom was dirty it had hair in the sink and the plughole in the bath, the shower curtain had brown strange marks and the toilet made a strange bubbling noises all the time.

We were moved to another room, but it was no different, we slept with socks and jumpers!

It made the holiday terrible, we tried to stay out all day so we didn't have to go back to the hotel.

Then when we got back to Heathrow, the company that looked after our car lost my daughter's suitcase and were an hour late picking us up as we waited outside the airport in the rain!

It truly was a holiday from Hell!
