Taken September 1997 from Newcastle to Kos

Summer 1997 I planned my first visit to Greece with a holiday company called Golden Sun. Originally the flight was to be an evening one on Nordic East, but changed just prior due to poor performance to Air Atlanta and a nice early morning departure. I remember seeing the huge Tristar landing at Newcastle, it was awesome. A very clean brilliant white aircraft TF-ABV (now scrapped). The cabin crew were Manchester based and had been bused up to meet the aircraft after its arrival from Iceland.

On board the Peach Air crew where fantastic, but the job was hardly demanding owing to the fact there were maybe only 160 on board. Lots of room to stretch out in the centre seats. No entertainment or music, but it really didn't seem to matter, felt like a very nice plane ride really. One of the best meals I have ever been served on charter, and as before the crew were excellent. On the descent we had some great views of the Greek islands.

Little bit windy upon landing, and to see an aircraft that size parked up at little Kos was something else.

On the return the following week, we were delayed by 2 hours. Nowhere to sit in Kos airport.

The return leg was operated via Rhodes to pick up the last few passengers who had operated to their destination via Kos the week before. On the ground there for about an hour and then off over the alps while sunset, it was a great old plane. And the return flight was the last of the summer season. I don't think it will have ever returned to Newcastle again after it flew back to Iceland.

Thanks to the Peach Air crew, who all probably work for Thomas Cook or other airlines, for making this flight the sort of non bland everyday flying experience.
