Booked a return hop with BY from Leeds to Alicante to view some villas. Paid more than we should have and could have gone with the fab Jet 2, but hey this is Britannia, the best ... right? WRONG!!!

For nearly twice the price of low fares, you may not be sat next to each other onboard unless you pay £10. Any seat requests such as window or aisle is another £10, and what Britannia call a tasty hot meal is yes, you guessed it…..another £10.

That is appalling service and we had not even got on the aircraft yet. Let's get down to it then. Servis air check in staff were nasty and off hand, telling any passengers who had not paid for a meal that they were in the back, and when we asked if the seats we had were together, we were told “because you did not purchase a meal or pre book your seats they are pre allocated” - a typical text book response and very rude.

Aircraft was a 757-200, the Britannia mainstay and was in the form of G-BYAK, new colour outside but that’s all. Tatty interior still in Britannia 360 scheme and it really clashes and good god – the crew uniforms “don’t go there”. I thought it was fancy dress.

Sat across an aisle from the person I was travelling with and Britannia had split up 3 sets of groups for no apparent reason.

Breakfast, thank god I didn’t pay for that. The cabin manager was very excited about this tasty hot breakfast and couldn’t wait to rub it in our face. If you are going to fly Britannia, don’t pay for the meal and don’t get anything in the airport. What they don’t tell you until you get onboard is you can buy a meal deal, which is a nice sandwich, chocolate bar and water or hot drink for just £4.20.
