Taken September 2003 from Victoria Falls to London Via Johannesburg

South African offers a great service and buck the trend when it comes to African Airlines. The crews are very efficient and the on board service can't be faulted. The only down side is the leg room.

When I was checking in at Victoria Falls airport, they were long lines, this was not South African's fault as the Immigration officer had not arrived. Check was fast and efficient, even with no computer system, the agent was able to check in my Bag to London and on to Shannon (and it arrived!). Victoria Falls Airport is small and stuffy, making a long wait very unpleasant.

Flight arrived on time, and boarding was quick and efficient. It was an older 737-200, although it had been refurbished and did not feel its age.

The cabin crew were very professional, and the flight crew were very welcoming and made announcements throughout the flight as to route, speed and views at either side of the aircraft.

The in-flight snack was a large sandwich, and a choice of drinks was offered within 15 minutes of being airborne. The flight crew made several drink passes throughout the flight. Great service for an hour flight.

The flight from Johannesburg to London is where South African excelled. The flight was empty, this meant I had three seats together so I could stretch out, this was great as there is not a lot of leg room on the economy lower deck.

The crew were very efficient, offering two rounds of drinks before the main meal, which consisted of two choices, you were provided with a menu and a little travel kit after take off.

The in-flight entertainment system consisted of a seat back TV and the overhead screen, the seat back TV had a choice of several channels with up to date movies and shows. The flight deck were very welcoming & kept us informed through out the flight.

The cabin crew made several passes throughout the night with a tray of water and orange juice (so you did not have to wait for them to go back to the galley), there was a large breakfast, again with selections before arrival.

We arrived ahead of schedule at London.

This is my first time on South African and I would recommend them to any one, try and get the economy class seats on the upper deck as there is more leg room. Service and the in-flight system would put many airlines to shame.

Overall, a great flight.
