Taken September 1995 from London, Gatwick - LGW to Arrecife/Lanzarote - ACE

Before the flight I was really nervous for some reason (partly the fact that I hadn't flown since 1988), but the lovely people at Air 2000 really looked after me. We took off in our 757 and climbed out over southern England, crossing the Isle of Wight as we climbed to cruising altitude.

The flight was smooth as a baby's proverbial - no turbulence whatsoever. Reasonable meal. Halfway through the flight one of the stewardesses, knowing that I was a bit nervous, asked if I'd like to visit the flight deck. I said I'd be delighted. The captain was a very nice chap - I made sure I called him "sir" however!

We flew past Madeira and down past Casablanca in Morocco, on our way to Lanzarote. Lovely descent over the rocky landscape and white houses, then swinging out over the sea for finals, before flaring for perfect touchdown in Arrecife.

Simply a great flight and I have always had a soft spot for Air 2000 since then. It was only slightly dampened by being 5 hours late on the return flight two weeks later. Ah well, no-one's perfect.
