Home > African Safari Airways > ReviewTaken March 2004 from London, Gatwick - LGW to Mombassa - MBADespite the outward flight from Gatwick being on time, it has to be noted that the cabin crew were unpleasant and not very helpful and the in-flight 'entertainment' left a lot to be desired. The food could at best be described as bland, however the drinks service was quite frequent. The return flight from Mombasa was a nightmare. Although there was a departure delay of over one and a half hours with no explanation, the plane had to refuel at Basel (Unscheduled) which resulted in a delayed arrival time at Gatwick of nearly three hours which resulted in many passengers missing connecting flights. Despite this however, the old adage applies that you only get what you pay for, and I got the impression that those who 'UPGRADED' for better seats got poor value for money. Be very careful when flying out of Mombasa with ASA. If it is removable from your body it will be classed as your luggage allowance. If you require duty free goods, I would suggest you get it at the duty free shops in Mombasa (very reasonable prices) AFTER you have checked in because it cannot be stresses enough that you WILL incur excess baggage charges if you are overweight on check in. (£5.00. per kilo) Some people on our flight were hammered with these charges, however it would appear if you made an issue of it, it would be disregarded- but don't chance it! Would I fly ASA again? I don't know, but despite my grievances, it did represent good value for money, and another word of warning, if you travel with Vuitton luggage, leave it at home. I had two Samsonite cases which were in an awful condition on arrival at Gatwick, and on the carousel, there were wheels, handles and other various bits of luggage which had been broken off due to mis-handling. More worryingly, some luggage was open. Although I was not impressed with ASA, other people may have different opinions, but if you fly to/from Mombasa, BE AWARE OF YOUR LUGGAGE ALLOWANCE, ALTHOUGH IT APPEARS TO BE A REASONABLE 23kg. THIS DOES INCLUDE YOUR HAND LUGGAGE, PERSONAL POSsESSIONS AND IF IT IS REMOVABLE FROM YOUR BODY IE; COATS etc. because it may be a costly experience. | ||
