Check-in was swift with hardly anyone in the snaking FlyBe queue. Surprisingly for an airline that calls itself low-cost, we were checked in for the return flight at the same time (as we were coming back that evening and had no luggage).

The flight left bang on time, with a very swift takeoff. On board service was a snack trolley with food for sale followed by a drinks trolley. There were very few takers, but I had the tea. Well, it was hot and wet, but didn't taste much like tea. The cabin crew were okay, but a little indifferent.

The landing was smooth and we arrived at the gate at Edinburgh fifteen minutes early.

The return flight was five minutes late. This time the cabin crew all, but raced down the aisle with the trolleys to get the service out of the way as quickly as possible, and I just managed to grab the drinks trolley as it passed by. After touchdown (again smooth) the crew carried on chatting for a few more minutes until finally making the usual 'welcome to Birmingham' announcement, which was slightly annoying.

Both flights were in a BAe 146. Seating was six abreast, which is quite narrow, but for short flights isn't such of an issue. By this trip I knew to expect the roaring of the flaps as they extended and retracted and wasn't too bothered about it.

The total price was £59 for two people return (including a £1 debit card fee). I hadn't planned to go anywhere on my week off, but this offer prompted me into my second day trip to Edinburgh in six months. Overall it was very good value.
