This past vacation home from Italy (I went back to the states, I am stationed in Italy), during my trip home in May, I ran into delays in connections. On my last connection, the flight was first delayed, and then after about 45 minutes, they said it was canceled due to the fact that there simply was no pilot. I mean, don't you have back-ups for things like that? They said that there was no flight out of there to Cleveland until the morning and they were going to put us up in a hotel for the night. I was OK with this, however I did not want to go along with it. I wanted to get home... I had already been traveling for about 20 hours straight (from Italy). The woman in front of me HAD to get to work the next morning SO bad that she asked them if she could rent a car to drive home and have US Airways pay for it. They said no even after her begging and pleading to get back to her son and her job that she would lose if she didn't go in the next morning. She was not prepared for that kind of expense, therefore in a rut. I offered to help her if she took me with her. That is how we got home. US Airways customer service did not want to help us in renting the car, so we just thought we would make phone calls to the customer service over the phone when we got home. I don't know how it turned out for the other woman, but I did not try to contact them because I felt as if all they would do is tell me they can issue me a credit for a flight not taken, IF that. I do not feel this is sufficient, especially considering the fact that I will never fly with this company again under any circumstance. Be for-warned that these people are very well-known for delays and cancellations, other than for weather. On my way back to Italy, same problem, the flight was canceled. They re-directed me to Continental so that I could get on a flight to catch the rest of my connections. I thought that was OK but I waited in line for Continental too long and I missed the flight anyway. So they re-routed my whole ticket and they put my through Paris' Airport on my way back. I had to sit in the Paris Airport for 8 hours!!! Waiting for my next flight, I got lost, too. It was a horrible experience. Plus, I am active duty military, and we are able to fly without passports to ANY Nato country. The French did not know what I was showing them when I showed them my military ID. I had to fight for them to let me go. I am not a happy customer at all. This caused a lot of extra turmoil on my way back. I will never fly with this company again. Be careful who you choose to spend your money on when you buy plane tickets. | ||
