I was able to check in Shannon and have my boarding pass issued. The agent gave me a Window seat, 40A. This was about midway down the aircraft with a bulkhead behind me (despite this my seat could recline fully).

The Boarding crew were very friendly at Heathrow and very helpful with my baggage connection query.

Shortly after take off the crew came around with the menu and small kit (with socks, sleeping mask and toothbrush). The main meal was then served, a choice of two options. The Meal was big and delicious.

The only problem with the flight was the personal in flight entertainment system was down, however the main enterainment system was working and we were able to watch the movie on that.

The flight was full, so not able to stretch out, made use of the "wings" on the head rest in order to sleep. Seats are cramped on South African.

Was served breakfast about 1 hour before landing, this was a full meal (as opposed to a snack a lot of airlines offer you).

Flight deck was very friendly, with the Capitan apologising for the entertainment system not working. On approach to Cape Town, he was pointing out many of the sites on either site of the aircraft and wished everyone a plesent holiday (Nice touch!)

Cabin crew were very efficient and answered questions on the arrival forms that had to be filled in. They were efficient throughout the flight making several passes with drinks.

Arrived a head of time in Cape Town, very smooth landing.

Overall a great flight, great crew and great country.
