Flight# 001

San Francisco - Tokyo (Narita)

Boeing 747-400

Saturday, September 18, 2004.

This was my first time on an Asian airline and flying on the 747 is an amazing experience! We flew First Class, but I must say that the comfort level of JAL's First Class is far below what I expected. It lacks the ammenities and modern interior of other airlines' First Class. However, the service provided by the flight attendants was phenomenal! I have never been provided with such gracious, 5-star service. Not only were they beautiful, well-groomed and extremely professional, but were friendly with a good sense of humor. And with every request, they acknowledged us with a bow and a smile.

For a daytime flight, I was able to sleep fairly well. Our seats were in a spacious pod and transformed into a bed. However, for a First Class product, the decor was dated and the entertainment selection was extremely minimal. There were only a few movies available and some video games. It was very disappointing to say the least.

The inflight catering was excellent. They provided us with menus that gave us dinner options for the Japanese traveler or those of us wanting a Western selection. The meal was plentiful, along with a selection of nuts, bread and rolls.

I would definitely fly JAL again; however the First Class was below typical International standards. Luckily, the extraordinary service we received made up for the shortcomings.
