Taken August 2004 from London, England (Gatwick Airport) - LGW to Accra (Kotoka) - ACC

The flight departure, as announced in writing, a month in advance was 1130hrs and a reminder was sent a two days to departure advising passengers to be punctual for check-in starting 0930 hours. At check-in, the information screens showed that departure was to be 1300hrs. No reason was given for this. The plane eventually touched the runway at 1600hrs. It was quite comfortable in the air although the entertainment systems (TV and radio) were malfunctioning on parts of the plane. But the delay made relatives to wait till midnight to meet loved ones coming home.

Departure was set to be 2100hrs. This was to be the first service in my travel life where people were checked in to sit freely, i.e. no seating arrangement guaranteed. People had to scramble to board the plane. Families and small kids had to sit apart and others sat far apart. As a result the atmosphere in the plane was nasty and uncivilized. Passengers were aggressive as flight attendants tried to explain that the then ailing national airline, Ghana Airways, had transferred passengers to them at the last moment. People missed their connection by several planes.
