Taken December 1996 from London, England (Heathrow Airport) - LHR to Budapest (Ferihegyi) - BUD

Flew out to Budapest 5/12/96. Great flight with good service.

On the return (8/12/96), found out after arriving at Budapest airport that the flight was ready, but unable to depart because an aircraft had crashed onto the runway at Heathrow after the landing gear failed and all runways had been blocked leading to a serious backlog of incoming flights. After waiting a couple of hours, Malev took the passengers to a five star hotel in the city where we were given complimentary rooms and a meal, and a surprise, but very welcome extra night in the city!

News finally came through that a slot should be available for the flight in the middle of the night and after being taken back to the deserted airport we finally took off at around 5 am, arriving back in London just after 6am.

Malev proved themselves to be an airline with exceptional standards of customer care and did everything in their power to keep their passengers comfortable and informed during a situation which was out of their hands. I would be happy to fly with them anytime and have done so several times since, and have never been disappointed. Well done Malev!
