2006 Jeep Liberty Sport review from North America

"A fun, good looking, and reliable vehicle!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Nothing serious has gone wrong with the vehicle so far.

General comments?

We (my wife and I) traded in our 2003 Alero for a 2006 Jeep Liberty (She had wanted a liberty for quite some time). We purchased a base model with the automatic transmission and paid to have cruise control installed ($500) since we do a lot of freeway driving.

The Good:

The Liberty is very nimble and has an amazing turning radius. The 3.7 L V6 provides good power and acceleration. The ride is smooth, but you do feel a lot of the bumps and dips in the road because of the off-road suspension, but overall the ride quality is good. The 4wd system is wonderful in the winter and made a HUGE difference on the icy roads (we hardly slipped at all even when the roads were completely iced over). Good cargo room with the rear seats folded down.

The Bad:

Cheap interior with flimsy plastic everywhere. Seats can be uncomfortable when driving long distances. Not much room in the back for adult passengers, it's also difficult for people to get in and out of the small rear doors. Some wind noise on the freeway at speeds of 65-70mph. Also one thing that annoys me is the automatic door looking system. In the manual it states that the doors will lock automatically at speeds over 15mph. This is not completely true. The doors lock based on the amount of presure you apply to the gas pedal. I have a very light foot and find that the door locks do not normally engage automatically until I reach a speed over 30-35mph. This isn't really a big deal but I think it was a stupid way to set up the automatic door locks since they don't seem to lock very often for me when I'm doing city driving.
