2006 Mitsubishi Outlander LS review from North America
"Practical, solid build quality, timeless styling, excellent bang for the buck"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
None.
General comments?
I purchased the '06 Outlander LS and I am very happy with it. Considering the price, the level of standard equipment is very good (side impact airbags, ABS, electronic brakeforce distribution). Another reason is that I don't see too many of these on the road.
I use this car primarily for my commute to work 2-3 times a week carpooling with 2 guys. The ride is amazingly stable even at extra legal speeds. Braking is good, but the pedal feel is quite mushy (compared to Mazda3). The 2.4L Mivec is more than adequate to handle the Outtie's weight for passing at 70-80mph. Off-the-line torque is very strong. It feels very well put together and absorbs bumps and undulations well.
The Diamond White Pearl paint finish is excellent and looks very good on the car. Love the styling with its trademark Mitsu nose, big side mirrors and projector headlights.
The interior is very unique and in my personal opinion very stylish. I do miss the trip computer on my '85 VW GTI though. The air vents can point in any direction with ease and the dials on the climate control are very easy to use.
I have been getting only 20mpg overall, so its not a strong point.
I feel that the only mistake mitsubishi made with this car is they did not offer it with the 4G63 engine (EVO engine) which is sold almost everywhere else in the world as the "Airtrek Turbo". Note to mitsubishi, people in america want P-O-W-E-R!! give it to 'em in spades!!
Overall I can say that the car is very easy to live with, easy to drive and park, has great handling dynamics and with styling that will not grow old over time. Love this car!
