2000 Volkswagen Passat GLS 4-Motion review from North America
"Nice when it works, horrendous and expensive when it breaks"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
2 Oxygen Sensors went at 50,000 miles.
ABS Controller went at 60,000 miles.
Head Gaskets needed replacing at 65,000 miles.
Driver side Window Regulator went out at 75,000 miles.
Power Window switch doesn't function properly. When pressing up, sometimes it goes up, other times it goes down...
Check Engine light seems to come on at strange times, yet the computer does not show what is wrong.
General comments?
I would never purchase another Volkswagen. This car is highly unreliable. I had a dealer bragging about how the VW's are "solid" when you close the doors and I do have to give them that. It "sounds" solid, but when you look deeper into the engineering, the manufacturer took simple short cuts and put in cheap parts intermingled with the more expensive parts. It nullifies building a "solid" car when they are all held together with plastic parts, which has been my complaint about the car since I got it. It's always the cheap plastic parts that are breaking on it. Then, to pour salt in your wounds for buying the car, the dealer wants to overcharge you for more shoddy parts. They are very expensive to get fixed ($1000 per visit, minimum).
