1993 Pontiac Grand Prix LE review from North America

"I love my Pontiac"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Radiator, heater core supply line, thermostat, accessory belt, belt tensioner, catalytic converter, turn signal switch, passenger side power window motor.

General comments?

This car was bought from a gas station and I thought it would be a good starter car for me, but I didn't know how nice this car really was.

When I got the car, it needed four new struts, four brake calipers, four rotors and four sets of pads. I also gave the car a full tune up like new plugs and wires, a new O2 sensor, new PCV valve, new mass air flow sensor, and a new air filter. I also cleaned out the EGR valve, and I cleaned out the throttle body and intake plenum as best I could. After that I changed the engine oil and filter, and changed the tranny fluid and the tranny filter.

Now the car runs like new, and also gets good gas mileage as well. I get like 28 MPG on the high way, and around 18 to 19 around town.

This car handles very good around turns, and it also has great stability as well as minimal body roll when cornering hard.

The interior on my car is in perfect shape - no missing pieces, nothing is broken; it's like stepping in a time machine back to 1993.

The exterior of the car is also in perfect shape, although the front bumper was a little faded - I was able to take care of it with some automotive clearcoat, which deepened the colour, so now it matches the rest of the car. I also had the wheels repainted as well.

The paint really came back to its original shine with a good waxing, so now it looks like it's brand new

The engine and tranny both run like new. The engine still has good passing power, and the tranny shifts smooth. The only thing that I don't like about the tranny is that if you hit the gas hard while trying to pass somebody, it takes a second to allow the engine to build up power before down shifting. This is the first electronic tranny that I've ever had (sad isn't it), as my old car had a mechanical tranny, so you would just hit the gas and go.

My Grand Prix is a four door LE, with the 16 inch tire option and the sport suspension, and the appearance package that has ground affects and duel exhaust system. It also has power everything, sport gauge cluster, center console, ABS, fog lights, and a cold A/C which is good because it can get hot in my car with a gun metal interior.

The stock Delco radio is pretty good; it has good range and good base. My radio has a tape player in it, which means that I can play my MP3 player with the tape player adapter.

I have had this car for two years and it has never let me down. It's never left on the side of the road.

These old grand Prix's are not the quickest cars on the road, but they do handle very well and they also have great straight line stability. If you see one in good shape, then go for it as they really are nice cars.
