1998 Chevrolet Blazer SE review from North America

"An affordable SUV that is worth driving, but it can nickel and dime you at the worst times!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Front wheel bearings and brakes.

General comments?

First let me start by saying these vehicles do encounter a host of problems. I will admit though that with some TLC and proper maintaining the motor and transmission seem to hold up over the long haul. I have purchased a 1995 GMC Jimmy and this 1998 Blazer with high miles, but both have given me a 4x4 for the great North East Winters for an affordable price. These vehicles eat wheel bearings, and struts! Handles off the front recliners on my Blazer are both broke. Fuel pump or something is making a weird sound. When you shut off the vehicle it sounds as if an electric pump is still running to the rear of the vehicle? Not sure what that is? (possibly the fuel relay switch) I am now selling my vehicle because my model is two doors. I have children now and want a 4 door. I will look for a Blazer or a Jimmy in or around 50,000 miles, year 2000 or 01. I think they're pretty solid vehicles for the price. Find a parts changer and you'll be OK. Stay away from the dealers once your warranty is up! I often have garages give me an estimate for repairs, then take the truck to my backyard mechanic to have it fixed. I buy the parts on line or at my parts store and he'll change them out! You save a fortune this way. Do this around inspection time. Take your truck to a Midas or Sears, Firestone. Have them check the vehicle out. Then they'll give you a list of what the problems are, now you get your guy to change things out. Well good luck with your Blazer/Jimmy's.
