2002 Chevrolet TrailBlazer LS review from North America
What things have gone wrong with the car?
I wanted to chime in on the "Fan Clutch" problem with the 2002 Chevy Trailblazer. Coming from the engine was the sound of a airplane, which is normal for the trailblazer when you first start out in the morning, but this was twice as loud and it was not shifting properly, but would after you would press on the gas petal. So after looking up on the web problems with TB's I found the problems with the transmission, but they talked about it going completely out, so I called Chevrolet Customer service to put in a complaint before I took it to the dealership. They suggest I do that. So I did and while checking in at the dealership we were talking to the tech and she said she didn't believe it was the transmission it sounded like a fan clutch. OK, so the next day I came in a looked up fan clutch problems and found this website. Well infact that is what it was, I was still charged the 1.5 hours of diagnosis charge even though I got it fixed there also. She tells me it will be $910.00, I about flipped. The part is $345.00 or so and 3 hours of labor at $110.00 per hour. Which boggles the mind, their explanation is I am getting a GM certified technician, well great, persons who have masters degrees don't get paid that much. Chevy Customer service calls me back and says that the dealership decided that I shouldn't get any financial assistance due to several factors, I asked what are they, first the age of the car, 2nd the mileage and lastly and best of all because I didn't have my maintenance done at the dealership (i.e. oil changes and tires) so that is why. OK I have records of all my oil changes and I have new tires, but what does that have to do with a "fan clutch" when I had my last oil change the car ran fine, it was only a week ago it started acting up and unless they put my car on their little diagnosis machine they wouldn't of known either. But I got penalized for it. Now I know how dealerships are and it takes at least an hour for an oil change, who has time for that. Now as far as a problem with the fan clutch and should there be a recall, I have read my people complaining about it and its not cheap to get fixed, but when you do get it fixed GM has changed some part of the FC so that it doesn't break, so my new one should last forever, well that tells me there is a problem with the original and why am I paying $900.00 for a new one. That's my story and I am sticking to it. TW.
