1982 Toyota Supra L-Type review from Norway
"Smooth, classy, luxurios grand tourer, with plenty of power"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Clutch thrust bearing and oil seal rings were bad, replaced at 336.000km.
Stuck/stuck hydraulic valve lifter on the exhaust side, runs fine apart from the noise.
Engine has a slight oil leak coming from the rear side of
the engine, still 100% engine compression.
General comments?
The 1982 Celica Supra L-Type was created to let you experience high performance motoring in tastefully refined, luxuriously appointed comforts. It's not built for racing or drifting, It's a grand tourer, not a sports car. My car has Variable assist rack-and-pinion power steering, which provides near-effortless handling. The Cruise Control is a relaxing asset on the Interstate. There is fuss-free automatic temperature control air conditioning, a large sunroof which brings the sunlight into my car. It got an effective lumbar seat support with three pillows. It still has the stock rims, along with Pirelli P3000 tires that gives the car premium road grip. And an electronic AM/FM MPX stereo receiver with five speakers that surround me with sound.
Car is in very good condition, despite it's age, the driver side seat has a small tearing on the side support there's a little rust on the rear fenders, nothing serious. The rear seats is in new condition, the 5M-GE twin cam engine runs extremely quiet, I believe it must be one of the most smooth running engines I've heard, but beware of the oil, the engine likes fresh oil, I use Castrol Edge Sport 10W-60. The car is completely stock, and I only drive It in summers, because of the large amount of road salt where I live.
The car Is not the most common car on the road. It turns heads wherever I go with it, and I can still take it on long 3-4 day trips. Engine burns no oil!
