2001 Hyundai Accent GSI review from North America
"A really great car for its price that I would recommend to anyone in need of a small budget car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
So far the car has run perfect for me. I bought it at 75000 KM and have only driven 3000 KM with it so far, but everything has been running smoothly, except a replacement of a brake light which cost me 2 dollars!
General comments?
First off, I think the 2002 model year is the best looking Accent from the exterior. The fog lights, sunroof, spoiler, alloy rims and the unique design of the car make it look very attractive.
On the inside, the Accent looks good as well. The center panel is very attractive and is easy to operate all the buttons while driving. The disappearing cup-holders when not in use is a cool feature. The best part is when you sit down on the seat and are surprised by the comfort level. The seats are very supportive and allow you to position it with four separate dials to get it just as you like it. The best feature is the nighttime dashboard display. At night the whole dash lights up a cool indigo blue/green colour which is really nice looking.
As far as driving it goes, it is a very smooth ride with surprising quietness when city driving. On the highway it can be a bit loud, especially with the windows open on a hot day if you do not have A/C like me. The muffler and engine is a bit loud when starting from a stop, but once the second and third gear kick in it quiets down nicely. The Accent really surprised me with its quick acceleration and quick turning abilities. I was expecting a golf-cart style drive.
I am a bit disappointed in the fuel economy. I was expecting much better fuel mileage than I am currently getting, and I do accelerate and stop very slowly to try and keep the fuel mileage high. I would not say the fuel economy is poor, but I also wouldn't say the fuel economy is good, it is average for a small car.
Overall, I have not had any problems at all and I am very satisfied with my Accent. It's a great car to scoot around town with and even take for a semi-long road trip. The handling is actually quite good, considering the narrowness of the car and tires. The 2002 Accent GSI looks awesome from the outside, is very comfortable inside and is actually really nice to drive.
For an economy car you really get a lot of comfort and good looks out of it at a decent fuel economy and I would recommend an Accent to anyone on a budget as so far I am loving it.
