1987 Dodge Daytona base review from North America
"4+stars in a 5 star world"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Nothing other than the ignition switch and fuel pump (the pick-up screen was badly clogged, but original pump still worked!) The steering gear has been replaced (that was before I bought the car) and the head appears fairly new, but I'm not positive it's been replaced. This 20yr old car is very clean and has been well taken care of.
General comments?
Purchased this great car from a towing co. in So. Calif for $100.00 this last May with 120,000 original miles. Put four tires and a battery in it along with the above mentioned repairs, changed the oil and filter and cruised to Dallas,Tx without a problem. It averaged 34mpg and was very comfortable on the long trip. It's tough to put it in a particular class because it gets great gas mileage like an econo-car yet rides more like a full size car. (I didn't get blown around by "the big boys" out on the interstate.) I bought it mostly just to get to Texas and if it lasted just that far I would be happy. Now my wife wants it instead of the P.T.Cruiser we were going to buy. I think she might just have to wait until I find a Daytona Z and then she can have it. Until then I'm keeping it...for us!
