1997 Chevrolet C1500 z71 review from North America
"My 1997 Chevy Z71 is fantastic!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
So far, nothing has gone wrong, but the transmission was replaced with a new Chevy factory tranmission at 180,000 miles by the previous owner. He said he towed a 5 horse goose neck trailer with it and used the overdrive. That is what killed the original transmission. Other than the transmission, nothing other than typical maintenance was done.
General comments?
I am amazed that a vehicle, especially one that was used for towing a 5 horse trailer is as perfect as this one is after 200,000 miles of use. I bought it from a neighbor so I know its history.
It runs perfectly, uses no oil, has a very quiet engine with no lifter noise. There is not even a puff of smoke when it is started after setting for a week.
The interior has no wind noise and very few rattles, even on bumpy roads. Everything still works on it. The body has no rust, but the clear coat is peeling on the roof of the cab where no one can see it.
This 10 year old truck is great. I expect many more years of service from it and plan to pull it behind my motor home.
