1997 Toyota Avalon LE review from North America

"Would have to consider not buying a Toyota with so many defects"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Window seals are not tight enough causing noisy air vent.

The cup holder made from plastic broke and was not very secure in holding cups.

The car mirror on both sides have broken off at 46,000 miles. I have no kids and not rough with things.

Replaced Strut at 45,0000 miles.

Every time I get the wheels aligned, it needs it again

in about a few months. Been just driving it, because it needed adjustment so often I couldn't afford to align every four months or so. But then also it wore my tires out and had to replace tires way before it needed it. Of course I didn't get credit for it because of the alignment problems. Note: I'm a very careful driver and easy on the car.

Had power steering seals leaked and replaced at 50,000,miles.

At 125,000 miles started having steering problems. Replaced rack and pinion by mechanics advise. This did not resolve it after spending hundreds on it. Of course the the mechanic "didn't know" what else he could do. Took it to another shop, got wheel alignment after tire replacement and said only the collision shop could "evaluate" if steering problems was caused by "SAI not in line" after explaining I had the rack and pinion replaced.

Also have a leak in the window washer fluid dispenser and can't get to it myself.

General comments?

This Avalon appears to be made cheap. Accessories break off easily.

Too many mechanical problems for being driven carefully.

Being a single woman would not feel secure to buy another Avalon. Got a lot of runaround when taking to a shop for Diagnosis.
