1988 Nissan Pulsar GX review from Australia and New Zealand

"Everything I could have wanted in an economy sedan and more!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

With previous owner:

- Minor head work done.

- Minor Electrical faults (Ignition coil).

- Crack in dashboard.

With me:

- Coolant mysteriously disappearing causing engine to over heat. (found to be caused by tiny hole in radiator core) it was then cleaned and repaired and has been great ever since.

- Oil pressure light would flicker on and off when idling after a long trip, (fixed with oil and filter change)

- Sometimes the starter motor won't responded to key. I don't know why it does this, all I know is that it is embarrassing when I have to start the car with a screwdriver under the bonnet and people in the car park are giving my strange looks as if I was steeling it. (probably can be fixed with rewiring, but I find screw drivers to be cheaper)

- Exhaust (rear muffler mainly) rusts out really quickly. replaced with stainless steal muffler.

General comments?

I was doubtful when I first looked at the car, but was pleasantly surprised when I took it for a drive. It handles nicely, has great acceleration and a great top speed. Amazing fuel economy great for long trips. Easy to D.I.Y. repair because everything is under the bonnet not the car. Cheap to service and maintain.

Down side: Not much of an image is made in this car (as standard), Electrics aren't the best, Decent sound system is a must for long drives.
