2002 Oldsmobile Alero LX review from North America
"Don't buy one"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
1. Low tire pressure light comes on regularly, without having low tires.
2. Wheel bearing noise from rear bearings (yet to be repaired).
3. Car will not start intermittently when it rains. All fuses OK; hit the fuse box (in the driver's compartment) and it will sometimes start, but the gauges won't work. Hit it again, then everything will work. Yet there is no signs of water leakage & loose wires when the fuse box is removed.
4. Rapidly wearing tires in front.
General comments?
My wife bought the car because of the looks; also she previously owned a '96 Grand Am, and because it's basically the same chassis, liked the features.
Since acquiring the car, we've experienced several dead batteries (intermittent) without leaving lights on etc...
There is wheel bearing noise from the rear end that is getting louder, indicating severe wear.
Today, the car would not even crank over (without even having a bad battery). Removing the fuse box in the driver's side and putting it back in managed to get it started. Hitting it again got the gauges working. No water or corrosion was present.
I'm 6' 3'' and do not fit well in the car. My legs get cramped up on the dash, while my arms are stretched out towards the steering wheel.
