1987 Peugeot 505 Liberte (GLS?) Estate review from North America
"An old saying is a sad one in this case - they don't make'em like this anymore"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Besides the usual wear and tear items, the EFI is giving problems (it HATES cold mornings!), and as a result the cost to get it through our emissions check was high (about $400.00).
The factory stereo packed up (no great loss) and the power steering leaks like a sieve.
Also, I've had a few electrical problems, but since I'm a car electrician those problems were not difficult. The worst was when the aircon threw its belt, taking out the waterpump belt and a water hose at the same time - fortunately, I was only a couple of blocks from home!
General comments?
I love these cars - yeah, they have their occasional problems, but these are probably some of the best long-distance cars available. They are only as the French can make them - supremely comfortable and exceptionally well mannered.
The 505 Wagon handles and drives so well, I find the thought of an Acura Integra (or any other car of its type, defined by perfomance characteristics) rather pointless, especially since I can carry a load that would put most small pickups to shame and still arrive at my(long way off) destination smiling.
