1994 Pontiac Grand Prix SE review from North America
"Good driver, but nickel and dimes you to death!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
A lot of things have had to be replaced.
Head gasket and burnt valve had to be replaced at 91,000.
I had 3 fuel injectors replaced since 3100 engines are notorious for this.
New acceleration cable and throttle body.
Idle speed motor and sensor.
Fuel regulator sensor replaced.
I had to replace the heater core, evaporator and air conditioning system. Always seems to have a sweet plastic smell coming through the vents!
What else. Let's see.
The signal light ignition system goes on all these GPs. Starts smoking. Left signal still fades in and out.
Temp. sending unit because the gauge claim's over 220. After replacement didn't help at all; still at the same spot, even though the car is not running that hot.
Last, but not least, going through rear brake pads and calipers way too much! Noted problem for this year.
General comments?
This car shifts, rides and handles very good, though ground effects rattle and come loose.
The car is definitely not quick, but peppy.
Sluggish up hills, and so so on gas. Doesn't feel like a 160 hp. It seems when you get to a half a tank, the car guzzles gas. I had a 1992 GP SE with 140 hp and this car doesn't seem much quicker (that car was a true nightmare, but that is another story).
I like the interior design on this year, even though some of the options are silly.
I always like the looks on the 1994-1996 GPs, except the honeycomb wheels. Really wanted the star rims.
The clear coat fades too quick on all cars today.
Overall it's a fun sporty car to drive, just nickel and dimes you to death! Should have used a 3800! No matter what people say about these comments, I have had a few of these cars and it seems typical for GM!
